Abstract

Rural economic transformation based on local potential is an important strategy in driving sustainable development. Tourism, as a strategic sector, plays a significant role in driving the rural economy, especially in areas with unique natural, cultural, and social potential. Wotawati Hamlet, located in Pucung Village, Girisubo District, Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta, is one of the pioneering tourist village areas with great potential. The uniqueness of the hilly landscape, the richness of local traditions, and community activities that are full of cultural values offer opportunities for developing community-based tourism. However, Wotawati Hamlet faces a number of challenges, such as limited basic infrastructure, minimal human resource skills, lack of tourism promotion, and limited road accessibility. In an effort to answer these challenges, identifying potential and obstacles is the first step in formulating an appropriate development strategy. The results of the initial study of Community Service Activities (PkM) underlined the importance of increasing human resource capacity, revitalizing basic facilities such as kitchens and sanitation, toilets, and standardized household waste management. This approach not only aims to increase tourist attractions, but also ensures sustainable economic and social benefits for the local community.
