Abstract
This article reviews themes in community service in the tourism village assistance scheme that the author has carried out as part of the LP2M-STIE API Yogyakarta Tourism. The government gives trust to STIE Tourism API Yogyakarta as a companion for tourist villages through various programs. The discussion method is carried out by synchronizing the themes of assistance and crucial issues that confront the phenomenon of village tourism as well as the new demand for rural tourism which continues to grow. There are four main themes that emerge in accordance with the definition of rural tourism, including location, sustainable development, community-based aspects and experiences. Among other things, internal challenges include planning and management, marketing strategy, finance and poverty, while external challenges include tourist demand, competition and external resources.
